Happy 30 Days Into The New Year! Got Cake?

Being that it is indeed a new year I would like to kick off this first post of 2013 by reintroducing ourselves, for those of you that are visiting our site/blog for the first time WELCOME! Cakerator LLC is a small family owned (husband and wife team) business located in Raleigh, North Carolina. We like to use the term Cake Studio for our little digs. We specialize in tailored custom cakes for life events like birthdays, baby-showers, weddings, graduations, retirements, book release parties, just about any situation that warrants for a cake.

Luis and I

How we came up with the name? We did not want to be known as some cutesy cakery, everything pink and brown with cute little cupcakes prancing around on our site. We are cake artist, and when we start caking there is nothing cute about it, it’s messy, it’s exhausting, we use big manly tools, and often times we find ourselves walking down the aisle of Home Depot for ideas on how to defy gravity and create cake illusions. And since Californians deemed it fit to dub their then Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger the “Governator”, we thought why not dub our business the Cakerator, such a perfect name to describe folks like Luis and myself.

Moreover, because we love our cake tools and gadgets, thus the creation of our logo, the grunged out kitchen aid mixer stand, which I think is also a perfect representation of our cake studio.

Let me tell you a little about our background. Luis my husband, hails from Lime Peru, he has many talents, and it seems sometimes that he can do just about anything, from drawing, sculpting, building stuff, and fixing stuff. He is also a toy collector and musician, he plays the guitar, both acoustic and electric, but like I mentioned before he can just about do anything or play any instrument, at least it seems that way to me.

For those of you that don’t already know me by name, it’s Maria (AKA The Cakerator), and I’m a Trini ( a term used for people from Trinidad and Tobago), oh and I forgot to mention that we are also LDS (AKA Mormons). I love anything to do with the arts and creativity, I graduated from H.S. as an art major studying photography and other mix medias, my favorite was painting. A few yeas later I graduated with a degree in audio engineering, (I know, the story is way too long on why I switched careers from art to music to write on this post) but you can imagine some of the conversations between Luis and I, dissecting songs from the likes of Metallica and Led Zeppelin. Like Luis, I like challenges and love trying new things. At the end of last year I started sewing as a new hobby! I have always been a bit of a tomboy, and always hated the color pink.

Luis and I met in NYC, and 2 years later he followed me to NC to ask me to marry him (that’s what soul mates do, also another long story). Together we have 3 children, one of them have been featured on this blog a few times. And they are the main reason we got started with this cake thing, we just got tired of the same old cakes at the grocery store, we wanted something a little more personalized for our children. And so we used our artistic background to figured out how to create edible cake art. To this day our son is our hardest customer, he always asks for the impossible… and being that he is the youngest, he gets it. This year is no exception.

Talking about cakes, here are a few of our favorites cakes we had the opportunity to create last year.

If you are interested in purchasing a cake from Cakerator LLC, the first thing to decide is: what is your cake budget. Ordering a tailored cake is not like going to the nearest Wal-Mart to buy a sheet cake for $19.99. It all begins with a cake consult, because each and every cake is designed and tailored for each unique individual right down to the flavor. It is very labor intensive and time-consuming to create an edible work of art that defies gravity. Sure you can get a cheap cake at craigslist, but you get what you pay for. Here at Cakerator LLC you are guaranteed a cake from a legal, inspected kitchen, with a cake that will have people talking about for years. Here at Cakerator LLC, we make sure that you not only get an amazing looking cake, it taste amazing too, using only the freshest ingredients and baked from scratch.

People often call and wonder why sculpted cakes are more expensive than your average local grocery store, look at it this way, when you go to get your car fixed it may cost from $500 – $2000, and the actual auto part sometimes maybe be just under $100, but the skill and labor that it takes to fix it cost about 85% of your bill, and is it worth it? Try fixing your car yourself with the tool you probably don’t have nor the knowledge. The same concept can be applied with what we do as cake artist when we create these edible works of arts, at times you may find me 5 AM in my cake cave adding the finishing touches to a cake, and with no over time. It’s crazy but I do it because I love what I do, I love surprising our customers and delivering a product that is beyond their expectations.

Customers come to us when they want that wow factor at their event, besides them, they want the other center of attention to be the cake. If you would like to learn more about Cakerator LLC go to our FAQ Page or our Policy Page to read more about what to expect when you order a cake from us.

We are very passionate about what we do, and love to make people happy, and if you are in the Raleigh and surrounding areas and looking for a cake that will impress your guest contact Cakerator, we would love to hear from you!
